Animating Presentations

Adding animated effects to titles, text and chart objects in slides (and to transitions between slides) is fairly straightforward in both PowerPoint 97 and 2000. You can select from preset animation effects on the Slide Show menu including, for example, the Drive-In effect, in which an object flies in from the right side of the screen accompanied by the sound of an automobile. If you prefer airplane sounds, choose the Flying effect for an object coming in from the left side of the screen. Other effects that you can attach to objects include typewriter, camera and laser sounds, reverse text display, word-by-word appearance, dissolves and wipes. If you'd rather configure your own animation effects, select Custom Animation from the Slide Show menu. This lets you control timing, animation type and accompanying sounds (including WAV or MIDI files or voice narration). You can also integrate video clips to slides by clicking on the Insert menu, selecting Movies and Sounds, and then naming or selecting an AVI format video file. The same menu can be used to add CD audio tracks.
